Name Change Signifies Merging of Two Storied Greater Philadelphia Dealerships

This month, McCafferty Ford, Kia and Hyundai became Fred Beans Ford, Kia and Hyundai of Langhorne. The Fred Beans Family of Dealerships has owned the McCafferty Auto Group of Langhorne since 2014 and had partial ownership since 1999. The decision to change the name signifies the merging of two storied names with longstanding traditions among car dealerships of the Greater Philadelphia area and coincides with the grand opening of a new Kia showroom in Langhorne.

“We often contemplated changing the name since we acquired the McCafferty Dealerships,” said Fred Beans, founder and president of the family of dealerships that bear his name. “We wanted the timing to be right to move forward with this change, knowing that the McCafferty name is widely-recognized and well-regarded. With the opening of the new Kia Dealership, the timing felt right. Often in business, you have to trust your gut.”

“A renowned Ford dealer in our area, McCafferty has a loyal following of customers, dedicated employees and is integral to the Lower Bucks County community,” added Beans. “One of our top priorities is to respect these relationships. All of our customers – Fred Beans and McCafferty - will benefit from a uniform culture and customer-first policies as well as an expanded inventory among the dealerships.”

Under the Fred Beans Family of Dealerships, McCafferty customers now have about 5,000 total new and used vehicles spanning 18 brands to peruse online and select from when visiting one of 20 Fred Beans dealerships in person. Additionally, all McCafferty customers’ AutoRewards points will be transferred to new Fred Beans AutoRewards cards, which customers use for earning cash toward their next purchase and for discounts at participating local businesses.

Fred Beans Family of Dealerships is family-owned and –operated, with Fred Beans at the helm after more than 50 years in the business. Three of Beans’ daughters, Beth, Barbara and Jennifer, joined the business and are committed to maintaining the company’s position as a business and community leader in the region, poised to move forward.

About the Fred Beans Family of Dealerships

While in high school, Fred Beans, the automotive group’s founder and president, wrote himself a note that read in 15 years he would have an auto dealership that would focus on the customer experience. He entered the industry in 1959 at the age of 21, with a service station that he purchased using a $5,500 loan cosigned by his mother. He began renting and leasing vehicles out of the service station, his introduction into auto sales and precursor of a successful career.

Today, the Fred Beans Family of Dealerships is the largest, privately owned automotive group in Pennsylvania. The company employs 2,000+ individuals, the majority of whom are in Southeastern Pennsylvania, where it has its highest concentration of dealerships. It recently added two new dealerships in Flemington, New Jersey, for a total of three in the area. The company offers employees a customized education program through Bucks County Community College to work toward a leadership certificate.

Founder Fred Beans also involves managers in a reading program, providing books that have a classic or cutting-edge business or leadership lesson that the managers read and then discuss. He believes in lifelong learning and continues to put new ideas into practice to boost all aspects of his business.

The company’s economic impact extends beyond its employment and sales figures through contributions made by the Fred Beans Charitable Trust. Since its inception in 2000, the Trust has given more than $250,000 annually back to the community. It prioritizes helping organizations whose work falls within the categories of youth and education, human services, arts and culture and community development.

Most recently, the Fred Beans Charitable Trust contributed $1 million to the YMCA kick-off of its “For a Better Us” fundraising campaign, which among other things, will help fund major renovations to the YMCA facilities in Fairless Hills and Doylestown. The company has invested in the Y as a way to invest in its customers and neighbors. Contributions support the growth and development of the youngest community members and the overall health and wellness of all who take advantage of the Y’s services.
