Saturday: Take Your Kids To A DIY Emoji Class Hosted By Verizon

There are 2,666 emojis in the Unicode Standard, but there’s always room for more.

And though they might not be immediately accepted by the Unicode Consortium, in charge of putting lobsters and turkeys and aliens on your keyboard, Verizon wants to let kids have a go at making their own.

This Saturday, at Verizon’s 1430 Walnut St. store, instructors from Indianapolis-based Project Lead The Way are hosting a Emoji Design lab, where kids aged 8–12 will receive free training on the Vectr design program to create their very own emojis. At the end of the classes — happening at four different times throughout the day — participants will take home their emoji file.
