Pirates Travel to Lehigh Valley this Weekend

7/15/18

The Pirates, Southern New England’s professional indoor football team, will travel this weekend to take on the Steelhawks in Allentown at the PPL Center at 7 pm on Saturday, July 7, 2018.

The Pirates (8-4) are coming off of a disappointing one point loss to the Columbus Lions last week which dropped them to tie for second place in the National Arena League. Pirates Quarterback Sean Brackett had an outstanding game completing 27 of 35 passes with one interception and five touchdowns for 299 yards.

In his first arena league game, Lions kicker Tyler Rasa totaled 20 points for the team, going six for six on extra points, four for nine on “Duce” attempts and two for two on field goals including a 16 yarder as time ran out to win the game 63-62.

Pirate’s Defensive Back Kiante Northington had two interceptions in the game and was named the League’s defensive player of the week. Lavon Pearson led all of the Pirates receivers with 11 receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns.

“As we continue throughout the season each game holds more importance, as we compete for home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Although Lehigh Valley has been struggling this season they have continuously improved as the season goes along. They were very close to beating a talented Jacksonville squad last week and their confidence has been improving week by week along with their play on the field,” said Jawad Yatim President of the Massachusetts Pirates. “ We’ve had a great week of work however and we are focused on getting back on track after a tough loss last weekend down in Georgia. We’ve made some roster moves that we feel will help improve our team, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Should be a competitive game and we are looking forward to it.”

Following their trip to Allentown the Pirates have a week off to regroup and then return to home action at the DCU Center when they take on the Carolina Cobras at 7 pm on Saturday, July 21st.

Fans can also enjoy the games on NESN (New England Sports Network) which is televising all eight (8) Pirates home games during the 2018 season on tape-delay on NESNplus. Each of these games will also air on NESN National and on NESN primary during the week.

NESN is also airing an all access show on the team with behind the scenes footage.

NESN will also be airing multiple thirty minute documentary specials beginning in May, following the Pirates as they navigate through their first season of action. The audience will get an in depth look at the lives of the players, coaches and front office members who are at the forefront of Massachusetts’ newest professional sports franchise.
