Gateway Health VP Gabriel Medley Recognized with Men of Excellence Honor

Gabriel "Gabe" Medley, vice president of Quality Improvement for Gateway Health has been selected as a New Pittsburgh Courier Man of Excellence 2017. Medley will be one of 50 Pittsburgh African American leaders honored with the award at a dinner and ceremony to be held on December 13 at the Fairmont Pittsburgh Hotel. Since 2008, the New Pittsburgh Courier has honored African American men who exemplify personal achievement, leadership and community involvement with the Men of Excellence Award.

"This is a tremendous honor for Gabe and we are extremely proud and happy that other organizations recognize his worthy qualities," said Patti Darnley, president and CEO of Gateway Health. "His leadership is exemplary of the way he contributes to not only Gateway Health, but also in his role as a leader in the community. This recognition is well deserved."

In his role at Gateway Health, Medley is responsible for creating strategic programs that improve health outcomes for Gateway's Medicare and Medicaid members, while improving the overall quality of the health plan. He is also a 10 year veteran of the United States Army where he provided and deployed healthcare treatment to over 4,000 soldiers in a combat brigade; receiving a bronze star from the commanding general in Iraq, a bronze star from the commanding general in Afghanistan, a Meritorious Service Medal award, and an Expert Field Medical Badge. Medley serves on the Board of Directors for Just Harvest and Morning Glory Ministries as well actively volunteering for Avonworth school district's athletic association.

The 2017 Men of Excellence honorees join an exclusive society of diverse African American men who have displayed proven success within their profession, are positive role models whose contributions encourage others and are active in community service.
