Sarah M. Adelman of Moorestown, N.J., has been elected to the volunteer Board of Trustees of Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice, a leading not-for-profit healthcare provider based in Marlton.

Adelman is vice president of the New Jersey Association of Health Plans, a nonprofit association representing health-insurance providers across the state. An influential authority on legislative issues, she was recently named one of “New Jersey’s Top 10 Healthcare Policy Analysts and Experts” by the website NJ Spotlight.

“Sarah has in-depth understanding of the complex policy issues that affect both patients and healthcare providers,” said Samaritan President/CEO Mary Ann Boccolini. “She will be a wonderful asset to Samaritan, as we address the growing need for our services and the changing healthcare landscape.”

In fact, Adelman has volunteered extensively at Samaritan since 2014: She is serving her third year on Samaritan’s Gala Committee, which hosts the organization’s annual fund-raising ball. And last year, she became a patient volunteer, helping to provide direct support to patients and families.

“I’m very excited and proud to be part of this exceptional healthcare organization,” said Adelman. “As a member of the board, I look forward to being part of Samaritan’s leadership and its vision for the future.”

Adelman has published on issues of healthcare costs and cost-containment strategies, and is frequently invited to speak at conferences and policy roundtables. An expert on health insurance, she serves on the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey’s Healthcare Steering Committee.

Prior to her current position, Adelman was chief of staff at the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute, where she worked on healthcare quality, access, cost and safety issues. She also was a volunteer advisor to Governor Chris Christie’s Transition Team for the Department of Health & Senior Services, a member of State Senator Joseph Vitale’s (D-Middlesex) working group on healthcare reform.

Adelman is also vice chair of the Board of Directors for Parents Anonymous of New Jersey, the state’s largest child abuse and neglect prevention organization. And she is a member of two state health coalitions: Shaping NJ, focusing on obesity prevention, and NJ Breathes, aimed at reducing smoking.
