Harrisburg Mall will partner with The Dauphin County Department of Drug & Alcohol Services and Systems of Care Community Coalition, to sponsor “Recovery Day 2016” on Saturday, September 24 from 10 am to 3 pm. The free event is timed with the recognition of National Recovery Month, an annual observance that educates Americans about the dangers and available treatments for substance abuse. Approximately 80 different vendor groups are expected to participate at the event at Harrisburg Mall, which is located on 3501 Paxton Road in Harrisburg. “This event is intended to create awareness, offer education and provide resources to victims of domestic abuse, drug abuse and divorce, and connect people that need help, especially children,” explained Amy Richards Harinath, Press Secretary for Dauphin County. “This remains a serious topic in our community and with this event, we hope to reach as many families as possible.”
Last year, more than 500 families attended the event which promoted available local resources, services and job opportunities related to the recognition and treatment of substance abuse in the Harrisburg community. Exhibitors at this year’s event include Bridge of Hope Harrisburg Area, Dauphin County Children and Youth Services, Discovery House Harrisburg, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Narcotics Anonymous of the Capital Area, Overeaters Anonymous, Pennsylvania Counseling Services, Randi’s House of Angels and Roxbury Treatment Center.
“Harrisburg Mall considers it our social responsibility to provide widespread awareness of the devastating impact of substance abuse, and to promote available treatment options to support the local community,” explained Vicki Keating, General Manager of Harrisburg Mall.
