Project Part of the Comprehensive Long-Term Asset Strategy for County Campus in Norristown
AthenianRazak announced today that it is assisting Montgomery County in seeking proposals for architectural services for the expansion and renovation of the County Courthouse in Norristown, PA.
Montgomery County’s visionary, long-term asset strategy includes the development of a new and revitalized County campus, based in Norristown that reflects the greatness and diversity of Montgomery County. Included in the Justice Center/Hancock Square project is:
- The relocation of court functions from the historic County Courthouse to a new Justice Center addition on Main Street
- The renovation of the existing Courthouse, demolition of the existing Courthouse garage
- Demolition of the Courthouse plaza, opening of Penn Street between Swede and Dekalb Streets
- The expansion and redevelopment of Hancock Square
As the principal component of the County’s strategy, the County Courthouse project is an important urban design statement: the iconic centerpiece of downtown Norristown.
“We outlined a strategy last year that would maximize our existing assets and focus our efforts to create a place for our citizens and support future private investment in the County,” said Commissioner Josh Shapiro. “This project is more than the modernization of the County’s court facilities, it is the centerpiece of an investment in Norristown and Montgomery County that will serve our citizens for generations to come.”
“The County has been very savvy in setting a strategy that maximizes the use of its existing buildings and builds only the facilities it needs while still harnessing that investment to improve public space in Norristown,” said Alan Razak, Principal of AthenianRazak and the Project Manager for the Justice Center Planning. “Were looking for a designer who recognizes the opportunity inherent in the County’s decision to focus its investment on Main Street Norristown.”
The County aims to have an architect in place by October 2016. To view the full Request for Proposals, please visit http://montcopa.org/1712/Public-Purchase-Opportunities.
