CREW Teams Up with Girls Inc. by hosting ‘CREW Camp’ for Middle School Girls Considering a Career in Commercial Real Estate
CREW Philadelphia, in partnership with Girls Inc. of Greater Philadelphia & Southern New Jersey, is proud to announce CREW Camp, a five-day effort to introduce middle school girls to various fields within the commercial real estate industry. The educational camp will run Monday, July 11 to Friday, July 15, 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. The mission of CREW Camp is to foster professional development skills and highlight the architecture, engineering and construction segments of the commercial real estate industry as potential career considerations to these young girls.
Participants of CREW Camp will have the opportunity to tour major corporations within these industries, shadow business professionals and develop leadership skills. Features besides interactive field trips include a Girls Inc. version of the popular entrepreneur pitch show “Shark Tank” and one-on-one mentoring also sponsored by Girls Inc.
Five AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) firms have volunteered to host a Career Exploration Day for a portion of the day during CREW Camp. The firms participating include USA Architects, Heckendorn Shiles Architects, The Lighting Practice, Skanksa and Wick Fisher White. The camp includes a four-hour session from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. led by one of the firms with a short presentation, a hands-on activity to aid field development skills and a lunch to mingle with the students. USA Architects will host their camp day at Temple Science Education and Research Center and Wick Fisher White will host their day at Comcast HQ in order to display their respective projects to the campers. Heckendorn Shiles Architects, The Lighting Practice and Skanksa will hold their camp days at their office headquarters. The remainder of the camp will be held at Girls Inc.
“CREW Philadelphia has helped shape the professional lives of its members for more than thirty years. We owe our youth the opportunity to get a glimpse into the commercial real estate industry early on if we want to continue to inspire more women to enter the field and for our organization to grow,” says Jeanne Armstrong, 2016 President of CREW Philadelphia. “This is an amazing opportunity for young students to engage and experience real, tangible career potential in a very diverse industry.”
CREW Camp is open to rising 6th to 9th grade students at a rate of $100 for the week. Scholarships are available. Drop off and pick up will be at 1501 Cherry Street in Philadelphia.
