Leadership Chester County (LCC) honored 27 new graduates with a graduation ceremony at Downingtown Country Club’s beautiful new terrace at the 3rd tee. The event marked the 15th anniversary of LCC. LCC is an 8-month, 17-topic course which educates successful professionals from the business sector in nonprofit governance, local social issues, and community leadership then connects them with opportunities on nonprofit boards of directors. LCC Class of 2016 includes 27 individuals who are ready to bring their corporate, IT, financial, legal, educational, healthcare and marketing expertise along with their LCC training to govern nonprofit organizations serving Chester County.
LCC is a program of the United Way of Chester County (UWCC) provided in partnership with Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry and West Chester University. The mission of the program is to develop strong leaders for a vibrant, safe and inclusive community. LCC participants attend both interactive and academic sessions as they are introduced to local social issues and explore the unique challenges nonprofits face in providing quality service to residents of Chester County who are in need. Throughout the course year, diverse professionals in LCC work together in teams to address a nonprofit business problem, much as they would on a nonprofit board.
The LCC Class of 2016 completed projects for Church Farm School, an established and highly regarded college preparatory boarding school for boys, and presented their findings to a receptive board of directors. Their work focused on issues of youth mentoring, financial literacy and preparing youth to be “future-ready”, while exploring local resources and best practices in the field of education.
UWCC President and CEO, Claudia Hellebush, one of the founders of the program, noted, “LCC is an important investment in the future of Chester County, and good governance ensures the continued of high quality, effectively run social service organizations.” More than 100 organizations, nonprofits and government agencies have agreed, sponsoring individuals through the program or contributing expertise, facilities and services.
LCC’s Board Placement Service is available to graduates of the program, and to date 372 LCC graduates have gone on to serve 335 nonprofits.
