The City of Philadelphia on Tuesday announced that the first case of COVID-19 had reached one Philadelphia resident, and that it was encouraging people to stay away from large crowds and events for the time being.

On Thursday afternoon, the City prohibited gatherings of more than 1,000 people, and suggested that gatherings with more than 250 people be canceled:

In response, event, conference and meetup organizers around the city (and country, and world) have been postponing or canceling their events to practice “social distancing,” the idea that we can better contain the virus if we avoid social gatherings.
