Wisler Pearlstine, LLP is pleased to announce that attorneys Amy T. Brooks and Ahmer H. Sheriff recently presented on pertinent education and family law topics at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s 2019 Exceptional Children Conference.Ms. Brooks presented Solutions to Modern Day Ethical Predicaments. Mr. Sheriff presented Introduction to Special Education Law. Attendees experienced an interactive, technology rich discussion for special education attorneys.

Amy T. Brooks, a partner with the firm, works with school clients helping them to understand and navigate the existing legal framework in order to proactively achieve their goals. Ms. Brooks routinely litigates for school clients in administrative and local agency proceedings up through the appeals process. She defends schools against legal claims such as those brought under the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Improvement Act (IDEIA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as well as representing schools in investigations by the PA Department of Education and US Office for Civil Rights. A graduate of Temple University’s Law School (J.D., 2005), she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Temple Political & Civil Rights Review. She received her undergraduate degree from Haverford College in 1992.

Ahmer H. Sheriffis an Associate in the firm’s Education Law practice group. Mr. Sheriff represents public school districts, charter schools, and other educational entities, with a focus on special education law. Before joining Wisler Pearlstine, Mr. Sheriff practiced as an attorney with Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C. in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Prior to that, he worked in the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Investigations Department of HSBC Bank USA, and the Fraud Investigation and Dispute Services of Ernst & Young LLP. Mr. Sheriff is a member of the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and Montgomery County Bar Associations. He graduated from the University of Akron School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 2014), where he was a Production Editor for the Akron Law Review. He was raised in Cincinnati, OH, and received his undergraduate degree Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Cincinnati in 2011.
