Ballard Spahr Partners Dominic J. De Simone and David J. Margules have been named to the Philadelphia Business Journal’s “Best of the Bar: Philadelphia’s Top Lawyers” list.
The accolade recognizes local lawyers who have distinguished themselves as outstanding leaders in law, business, and the community. Mr. De Simone and Mr. Margules were selected from hundreds of attorneys based on the significance of their achievements, the scale of their legal results, and the effect of their work on the business community.
Both partners oversee practices representing significant areas of strength for Ballard Spahr—Finance, Real Estate, and Corporate Governance/Delaware Chancery Court Litigation.
An accomplished real estate and finance attorney, Mr. De Simone is co-Chair of the firm’s Finance Department and Practice Leader of the firm’s Real Estate Finance Group. His practice combines the firm’s highly regarded national finance and real estate practices. Mr. De Simone handles structuring and restructuring real estate debt and equity transactions, including distressed real estate matters, for leading national and regional financial institutions, specialty lenders and servicers, investment funds, and individuals, along with general real estate matters. As Finance Department Co- Chair, he also oversees more than 120 lawyers nationwide, representing clients across public and private markets and throughout the capital stack in a wide range of debt and equity transactions.
Mr. Margules leads Ballard Spahr’s Corporate Governance and Chancery Court practice, a Top 10 Petitioner Counsel Firm for appraisal litigation in the First State. He is widely considered to be one of the top trial lawyers in Delaware. He focuses on business disputes, including fiduciary duty claims, corporate valuation proceedings, corporate and partnership control fights, and insurance coverage defense. In the past year, he has been at the forefront of several potentially precedent-setting matters, including the largest appraisal case ever filed in Delaware.
