Hopeworks and Camden County Youth Services Commission have partnered together to create a new resource that identifies local community assets that help better the local community. By utilizing the Geographic Information System (GIS) skills of Hopeworks youth, the project will result in a map that details all of the community assets available to Camden youth.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Camden County on this important project,” shared Dan Rhoton, Executive Director of Hopeworks. “We in the Camden community know that these assets are available to the local youth but the challenge is sharing that these resources are available to them. With our GIS capabilities, Camden youth can help their peers find the resources they need with this project”
Community assets are any resources that can be used to improve the quality of life for those in the Camden community. There are many types of community assets and Hopeworks is mapping out:
- Physical structures including schools, hospitals, churches, libraries, recreation centers, parks, and other community centers.
- Community services including public transportation, recycling facilities, and cultural organizations.
- Individuals who better their community including community organizers and neighborhood leaders.
“This project will provide a needed resource to the youth of Camden and we’re thrilled that the individuals helping with this project are those that will benefit from it most,” said Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez. “By partnering with Hopeworks, we are filling a necessary void to better our local community.”

Established in 1975 the Office of Youth Services coordinates and administers a variety of counseling, social, recreational, educational and psychological services to youth and families residing in the City of Camden. They coordinate the City of Camden’s Municipal Drug Alliance Program, as well as the city’s Multi-Agency Life Line (MALL) Program. These activities strive to connect people and resources with effective and innovative programs aimed at reducing substance abuse and juvenile delinquency in our communities.
