The 868-foot tower is recognized for superlative engineering
The 83-story Panorama Tower in Miami has won a 2019 Award of Excellence from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). Designed by architect Moshe Cosicher with DeSimone Consulting Engineers, a leading structural firm with offices worldwide, the project will be honored at the 2019 Tall+Urban Innovation Conference in Shenzhen, China.
At 868-feet-tall, Panorama Tower is the tallest building in Florida and tallest residential structure south of New York City.
From ground up, the tower includes 50,000 square feet of high-end retail space, a 208-room hotel, over 100,000 square feet of office space, parking accommodations for 2,000 vehicles, and 821 luxury apartments from podium to pinnacle. To date, the development is equipped to support a community of over 3,000 people representing one of the best examples of high-rise, urban living in Miami.
“Panorama Tower required innovative solutions to meet complex design challenges and DeSimone is honored to receive recognition from CTBUH,” said Danilo Nanni, a Senior Associate in the firm’s Miami office. “Today, the tower is an extraordinary addition to the Miami skyline.”
From developer Florida East Coast Realty, Panorama Tower is engineered to both ensure occupant comfort and to deliver the maximum level of saleable area to ownership. To complete the structure as required, the scheme accommodated transfers for architectural elements including parking levels, a hotel, office space, and most importantly, residential levels. Effective collaboration with the architect and shell contractor enabled intelligent detailing of more than 10 transfer structures, in addition to the six main outriggers and belt trusses.
During construction, the project team completed a record-setting pile cap, as well as the largest, continuous, single foundation concrete pour in the state of Florida. More than 175 cement trucks and over 600 people were involved in the pour including 120 carpenters and laborers, 100 ironworkers, 350 concrete truck drivers, and 20 management professionals. The entire foundation mat required nearly 15,000 cubic yards of high-strength concrete totaling 13.5 million pounds, six concrete pumps that ran continuously for 22.5 hours, and approximately 3,500 tons of steel.
As a recipient of the 2019 Geotechnical Engineering Award, the project team has been invited to present at the 2019 Tall+Urban Innovation Conference. Structural design was completed by DeSimone’s Miami, Florida office. NV5 served as geotechnical consultant and construction services were administered by Baker Concrete.
