Attorneys Mark Cedrone and Joseph Mancano Receive The Justinian Society of Philadelphia’s Annual Beccaria Award

The law firm of Cedrone & Mancano, LLC is pleased to announce that founding members Mark E. Cedrone and Joseph D. Mancano were recently presented with The Annual Beccaria Award by The Justinian Society of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section. The award recognizes their contribution to the cause of justice and the advancement of legal education. The award was presented at a reception in the Mayor’s Reception Room in City Hall on Wednesday, November 28, 2018.

Mark Cedrone is one of the most respected federal criminal defense lawyers in Pennsylvania. For over 30 years, he has dedicated his professional life to representing individuals and businesses having serious disputes with, or under investigation by, various governmental units and/or administrative agencies. Mr. Cedrone has represented and counseled individuals and businesses in a wide range of sophisticated criminal and quasi-criminal matters, including complex tax matters, computer crimes, violent crimes, fraud, RICO and drug and firearm offenses. Clients come from around the world to work with him and have included high ranking public officials, multi-national corporations, and small and large business owners. He has successfully represented attorneys, pharmacists, realtors, and insurance brokers accused of wrongdoing by and before various licensing boards and administrative agencies.

A former law clerk/attorney advisor for the United States Tax Court, Mr. Cedrone is one of a handful of attorneys in the Philadelphia area qualified to represent individuals in audits and investigations conducted by the Internal Revenue Service and other taxing authorities. He has extensive experience in sensitive civil tax audits, criminal tax investigations, trials in criminal and civil tax matters, sentencing proceedings, and tax appeals. He has also represented clients in connection with the Internal Revenue Service’s Voluntary Disclosure Programs, Form 8300 investigations, and various collection and innocent spouse proceedings.

A Fellow of The American College of Trial Lawyers, which is universally recognized as the preeminent organization of trial lawyers in North America, Mr. Cedrone is a frequent speaker on white collar defense and tax litigation topics. He has been selected by his peers to the 2018 Pennsylvania’s Super Lawyers List for White Collar Criminal Defense, an honor reserved for the top 5% of the bar. Mr. Cedrone had served for many years on the Board of the Temple American Inn of Court — an organization that works to promote civility and professionalism in legal industry. He is also a member of the American Bar Association's Criminal Justice and Tax Sections.

Joseph D. Mancano focuses his practice on both civil and criminal litigation in federal and state courts throughout the United States. He is an accomplished trial lawyer, having tried over 100 cases to verdict. Mr. Mancano also handles federal and state appeals, and routinely represents clients in regulatory enforcement proceedings. Since 2014, Mr. Mancano has served as a court-appointed Discovery and Settlement Master for civil cases filed in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, Commerce Court.

Following graduation from Temple University School of Law in 1979, Mr. Mancano joined the U.S. Department of Justice under its Honors Program. He served as Trial Attorney in the Philadelphia Field Office of the Antitrust Division from 1979-1982. From 1982-1985, Mr. Mancano was a Trial Attorney in the Philadelphia Strike Force Office of the Justice Department’s Organized Crime and Racketeering Section. Mr. Mancano continued his government career in 1985 when he was appointed as an Assistant United States Attorney in the St. Louis, Missouri office of the President’s Drug Enforcement Task Force. Prior to founding Cedrone & Mancano, LLC, Mr. Mancano was chairman of the White-Collar Criminal Defense practice at a 70-lawyer, multi-state firm.

A prolific speaker at law schools, business schools, the FBI Training Academy, and to bar association groups, health care providers, and accounting societies, Mr. Mancano was selected by his peers for the 2013-2018 editions of Best Lawyers in America for: Criminal Defense: White Collar. Mr. Mancano serves on the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers White Collar Crime Committee. He is past President of the St. Thomas More Society, an organization devoted to promoting the highest ethical standards in the legal profession. In addition, he serves as a Trustee of St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, a Jesuit high school in Philadelphia, and was on the Board of Governors of the Civil War Museum of Philadelphia.
