Bar Harbor Bankshares (BHB) is a community bank headquartered in Bar Harbor, Maine, primarily serving coastal Maine and, through its recent acquisition of Lake Sunapee Bank Group, areas of southern New Hampshire and Vermont.
We've previously written favorably of the company - indeed, Bar Harbor has been one of our preferred community banks for quite some time having been shareholders for nearly a decade - and the bank retains a number of positive attributes, not the least of which is an annual opportunity for our principals to attend the annual shareholders meeting in the beautiful Bar Harbor. However, the company's luster has dimmed in our view with the acquisition of Lake Sunapee Bank Group and the company's increasing negative sensitivity to rising interest rates.
