John Grady, a partner in DLA Piper’s Philadelphia office, took over as president of the Alternative & Direct Investment Securities Association (ADISA), a national trade association of decision makers who influence more than 30,000 professionals involved in alternative investments, on January 1, 2017.

Grady brings 30 years of investment management experience to his practice, and works with mutual funds, interval funds, commodity pools, private funds, and business development companies, among other investment vehicles. He counsels investment advisors, broker-dealers, transfer agents and commodity pool operators on a range of issues, from fund formation to compliance to mergers and acquisitions.

In his role as president of ADISA, Grady will help the association promote the alternative investments industry through education and advocacy. ADISA members are heavily involved in sponsoring, managing and distributing various alternative investments, including real estate investment trusts, business development companies, private funds, “like kind exchange” programs, energy and oil and gas offerings and other direct participation programs. The association was founded in 2003 and has approximately 4,500 members, including sponsor members that have raised in excess of $200 billion in equity and serve more than 1 million investors.
