Stradley Ronon announced today that well-known Philadelphia white-collar defense and government investigations lawyer Michael J. Engle has joined the firm as a partner in its Philadelphia office. Engle was previously a name partner at Greenblatt, Pierce, Engle, Funt & Flores, LLC, where he was chair of the white-collar criminal defense and corporate investigations practice group and the federal criminal defense practice group.

Engle has more than 15 years of experience in federal criminal cases, complex white-collar defense matters, and internal or parallel investigations on behalf of corporations and other entities. He has represented white-collar defendants in complex, high-stakes federal and state prosecutions and has guided corporations and other organizations through the intricacies of government investigations. Engle has defended individuals and businesses in connection with grand jury subpoenas and in numerous jury trials. He also represents attorneys and other professionals in disciplinary and licensing matters.

“We are excited to welcome Mike to the firm and are confident that our clients will find his knowledge and skillset to be a valuable resource,” said Stradley Ronon Chairman William R. Sasso. “His trial and investigation experience further strengthens our existing offerings in these areas, which is particularly important in this era of increased regulation and scrutiny.”

A past president of the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Engle currently serves as co-chair of both the white-collar practice committee and the CLE committee for that organization. He is also a fellow of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers and a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Federal Bar Association’s Criminal Law Committee, and the American Bar Foundation.

“I was drawn to Stradley Ronon because of its stellar reputation for client service and long history of securing impressive litigation victories for individuals and businesses,” said Engle. “The firm provides me with a large and sophisticated platform from which to grow my practice while working alongside lawyers who are also committed to providing clients with efficient, value-driven results.”

Stradley Ronon’s litigation team, which was recently named by The Legal Intelligencer as the top litigation department for midsize firms, routinely handles high-risk, high-stakes litigation in a wide array of matters spanning state and federal courts, before governmental agencies, and in international and domestic arbitrations. From pre-litigation planning through discovery, trial and appeal, the firm’s litigators become steeped in and allied with clients’ business goals. The firm’s internal investigations, corporate compliance and white-collar crime practice group steers clients through some of their most delicate and potentially damaging situations. Individuals and businesses regularly call on Stradley Ronon to conduct thorough internal investigations, create and implement effective corporate compliance programs, and defend against allegations of white-collar crime.

“Mike is well known and highly regarded by clients, opposing counsel and judges for his trial skills and in-depth white-collar experience,” said Stradley Ronon Litigation Department Chair Michael D. O’Mara. “His knowledge of and passion for litigation and investigations make him a terrific asset for our department and our clients.”

Engle is a frequent speaker on topics regarding white-collar crime, grand jury matters, federal criminal litigation and other criminal law topics. He is listed in Best Lawyers and Pennsylvania Super Lawyers while also earning the preeminent AV rating from Martindale-Hubell for both legal ability and ethical standards. Engle received his B.A., summa cum laude, from Villanova University and his J.D. from The George Washington University School of Law.
