O’Donnell & Naccarato Welcomes Back Jason Coleman, PE, CDT As the Firm’s New Director of Restoration

With more than 17 years of hands-on restoration experience, Jason returns to O’Donnell & Naccarato Structural Engineers to lead the firm’s in-house restoration division based out of O&N’s Philadelphia, PA headquarters. Jason is a Professional Engineer registered in MD, NJ, NY, and PA. He laid the foundation of his career at O’Donnell & Naccarato in 1999 after earning dual degrees in Civil and Architectural Engineering from Drexel University. Since those early days, Jason has earned a reputation as a leader among his peers in the engineering industry, garnering accolades along the way including most recently, “2014 Engineer of the Year” awarded to him by the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers Lehigh Valley Chapter. Jason currently serves on the boards of the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Lehigh Valley Chapter, and Drexel University’s College of Engineering Alumni Association.

While Jason Coleman is well known in the A/E/C industry, that’s not usually how people take notice of him in public. As a SPRAT Certified Rope Access Technician since 2011, he can often be found rappelling from a skyscraper or local landmark. Specialized SPRAT training allows him and the O&N restoration team to perform high-elevation investigations, which are often the most economical form of facade assessment for mid-and hi-rise buildings. Jason has conducted rope access investigations on a wide range of building types from the historic, masonry icons of Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, PA to contemporary curtain wall facades in Bethlehem, PA and Manhasset, NY.

With June 30th inspection deadlines looming as mandated by the Philadelphia Facade Inspection Ordinance, Jason will spend much of the early summer in a harness and helmet helping building owners and managers to keep the streets of Philadelphia safe and its architectural landmarks sound. The Philadelphia Facade Inspection Ordinance focuses on buildings 6 stories and higher (or with appurtenances in excess of 60 feet) and details a staggered schedule of initial inspections followed by an ongoing regimen every 5 years. The ordinance, which passed into law in 2010, was modeled after existing legislation developed for Chicago, IL and New York City, NY. While the ordinance was being crafted in City Hall, O’Donnell & Naccarato participated as a structural engineering expert offering insight on how to tailor the law to best fit Philadelphia’s specific needs.
