Montgomery McCracken is pleased to announce that executive chairman Richard L. Scheff has been elected to the board of directors of Philadelphia VIP to serve a three-year term. Philadelphia VIP was founded in 1981 by the Philadelphia Bar Association and Community Legal Services to meet the legal needs of low-income Philadelphians by recruiting and training attorneys to provide pro bono legal services. The organization promotes equal justice for the poor by providing civil legal services not otherwise available, collaborating with other legal services organizations and promoting a culture of volunteerism by educating and exposing attorneys and law students to issues of poverty.

“It is an honor to take on this leadership role and I look forward to helping the organization meet their strategic goals,” said Scheff. “Our firm has a long-standing tradition of being committed to community service and helping those in need.”

Scheff is also on the board of directors for Partnership in After School Education (PASE), a child-focused organization that promotes and supports quality afterschool programs, particularly those serving young people from underserved communities. Additionally, he serves on the board of trustees of Gettysburg College and the dean advisory council and University Alumni Council of Suffolk University Law School.

He focuses his practice on government and corporate investigations with a special emphasis on pharmaceutical and medical device companies and the financial services industry. Scheff has extensive experience on False Claims Act matters, off-label promotion, pricing issues, compliance programs, securities fraud, insider trading and civil fraud and other white collar criminal and fraud matters. He graduated, cum laude, from Gettysburg College in 1977 and received his law degree, cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School in Boston in 1981.
