As part of its continual growth and commitment to innovation in its expanding water practice, Michael Baker International, a global leader in engineering, planning and consulting services, today announced that Thomas Browning, P.E., has joined the firm as Mountain Region Water Practice Lead.
Based in the firm's Denver office, Mr. Browning will serve as the company's technical and market resource for water, and senior advisor on relevant projects, integrating into numerous water-related endeavors including: infrastructure projects; planning efforts; environmental permitting; flood hazard mitigation; water supply; watershed protection; ecosystem restoration; and feasibility studies. He also will support federal contracts, recruiting efforts and business development opportunities to maximize the firm's water position in the industry.
"Colorado is on the verge of significant population growth with figures expected to double within the next 40 years," said Jeff Baker, P.E., Michael Baker International Senior Vice President and Mountain Region Director. "This population growth, combined with other pressures on the water supply, make for tenuous times for new and future water consumers. Tom's experience with water resource policies, issues, programs, and projects in Colorado and throughout the Midwest and West will further support Michael Baker as 'We Make a Difference' solving the water challenges this population surge creates."
Mr. Browning brings to Michael Baker 27 years of experience in water resources in both the public and private sectors and possesses strong skills in budgeting, contracting, technical applications, federal and state regulations, and change management.
Before joining Michael Baker, Mr. Browning held a variety of leadership roles including deputy director of the State of Colorado's Water Conservation Board within the Department of Natural Resources, where he worked for more than 20 years. Prior to that, he served as program leader and project manager at Greenhorne & O'Mara, Inc. and Boyle Engineering Corporation.
Mr. Browning holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Western Governors University in Utah and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
