Tyler Gum Appointed Site Administrator at Pennsylvania Military Museum

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) has appointed Tyler Gum as site administrator at the Pennsylvania Military Museum,Boalsburg. Gum succeeds Charles "Chuck" Smith, who retired after years of service to the PHMC.

"We are very fortunate to have someone with Tyler's historical training and business experience to lead the Pennsylvania Military Museum." said PHMC Executive Director James Vaughan.

Gum comes with a wealth of experience within the academic and business communities. Over the past eight years he has worked as a National Park Ranger, a History Lecturer at Penn State Altoona, and most recently the Director of Client Relations and Legislative Liaison for Benefit Management Group, Inc.

Gum has also been heavily involved in the community where he and his wife reside, serving on the Mifflin County Planning Commission as former Vice-Chair of the Parks and Recreation Council and on the board of the Mifflin County Education and Scholarship Foundation.

He has earned a bachelor's degree at Penn State University and a master's degree in history at Shippensburg University.

"Working at the Pennsylvania Military Museum is a dream come true. Visiting this site as a child is where my love of history began," said Gum on his new appointment. "As the new Site Administrator I look forward to strengthening our ties within the community and finding ways of connecting with our veterans. Without them, our comfortable way of life in United States would not exist."

The Pennsylvania Military Museum preserves and honors Pennsylvania's military history from 1747 to the present with special emphasis on the 20th century, interpreting for citizens and visitors the story of the commonwealth's "citizen soldiers," civilian activities on the home front, and the contributions of Pennsylvaniaindustry to military technology.
