Luther W. Brady, M.D.
PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alliance Oncology, a division of Alliance HealthCare Services, Inc. (NASDAQ:AIQ), a leading national provider of outsourced healthcare services, announced today that Luther W. Brady, M.D. is being made an Extraordinary International Academic Member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Brady is the founder of The CyberKnife Center of Philadelphia and the current Director of Medical Research at Philadelphia CyberKnife, an Alliance Oncology radiation therapy center. He is recognized as one of the world's foremost experts in cancer treatment and has published more than 800 papers in peer review journals and has led numerous clinical trials. Radiation oncologists around the world are familiar with his text books and the Encyclopedia of Radiation Oncology(Brady-Yaeger Eds.). He has won over thirty medals for his contributions in medicine and has served as president of every major radiation oncology professional society.
Dr. Brady was born in North Carolina and received his undergraduate and medical degrees at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He received post-graduate training in radiology and radiation oncology at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, and in Philadelphia at Thomas Jefferson Medical College and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He has had appointments at the Harvard Medical School, The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, but has spent the majority of his career in Philadelphia first at the University of Pennsylvania, and since 1959, at Hahnemann University Hospital, now Drexel University.
To be named an Extraordinary International Academic Member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Medicine, the candidate must be nominated by two full-members of the Royal Academy and the nominators must be from Complutense University, the largest university in Spain. Dr. Brady was nominated by Prof. Jose Luis Carreras, Professor of Nuclear Medicine, and Prof. Eduardo Diaz-Rubio, Professor of Medical Oncology.
The purpose of the Spanish Royal Academy of Medicine is to promote the progress of Spanish medicine, publish its historical background, and serve as a resource for medicine in Spain. The tasks and current projects of the Royal Academy include the Dictionary of Medical Terms, the announcement and awarding of Prizes, and computerization of its bibliographic material. It consists of fifty Academic Fellows and Honor Scholars, Corresponding National and Foreign Members, and Medals of Honor.
Dr. Brady will travel to Madrid to accept this honor at a ceremony held at the Royal Academy of at Medicine on Wednesday, June 22.
